Samara Region Development Corporation took part in official opening of renovated domestic terminal of Koltsovo Ekaterinburg International Airport

Minister of Transport and Highways of the Samara region I.I. Pivkin and General Director of “Samara Region Development Corporation” OJSC O.A. Serova took part in official opening of renovated domestic terminal of Kolscovo Ekaterinburg International Airport.
On December 16,2012 a renovated domestic terminal of Koltsovo Ekaterinburg International Airport started operating after the completion of the first stage of reconstruction. Passengers of morning flight to Noyabrsk became the first passengers served in the new terminal. Totally about 2 thousand passengers of 32 flights used the domestic terminal that day. Unusual design solution for interior, bright colors, comfortable restaurant, more comfortable scheme of serving the passengers before departure – all these things were noticed by them from the very beginning.
It took about a year to merge the existing domestic terminal with the first international terminal commissioned in 2005 and decommissioned in 2009 due to the commissioning of the new one that is almost twice bigger than the old one. All construction works will be completed in spring 2013 and domestic passengers will get even more spacious and comfortable terminal. Total amount of costs for reconstruction constituted about 1 billion rubles.
– Eight years ago we started reconstruction of Koltsovo, step-by-step we constructed air terminal, improved infrastructure. Today another stage in creation of maximally comfortable air hub is completed, - said the chairman of the board of “Koltsovo Airport” OJSC Evgeny Olhovik in his speech given in official opening of terminal in Koltsovo which took place on December 14. – We are sure that tens of million passengers will feel comfortable here during the following five years and that they will fly out of Koltsovo with pleasure and come home with joy…
Interior of the new terminal was designed by architecture studio “NefaResearch”. Designers longed to avoid routine and monotony that are common for airports, to liven up the internal space of the new terminal, to kick the positive perception of surrounding world by the interior.
– We were choosing the design for the terminal for a long time, considered several offers from designers, but finally preferred this extravagant, bright, sunny, dynamic, recognizable option, - says the General Director of “Airport Koltsovo” OJSC Evheny Chudnovsky. On the one hand, it is very easy, on the other - elegant. I think that we got fantastic result!
Within the first stage of reconstruction new check-in counters were made, luggage handling area was increased, inspection area was extended and moved to the second floor where passengers can come not only by stairs but also by lifts and escalator. After the full completion of reconstruction, the area of the terminal will rise from 23 to 44 thousand sq.m, its capacity will reach 1080 passengers for departure (1365 passengers per peak hour) and 720 passengers for arrival; the number of check-in counters will be increased from 14 to 22, the number of gates - from 9 to 10. The transfer area will start to operate with its own scheme of passenger check-in and inspection.
Upon the full reconstruction of the terminal the scheme of serving business-class passengers will be changed; they will check-in at separate counters located on the first floor and pass the inspection on the second floor. Business-class passengers will be able to wait for their flights in the new confortable two-level business area.
Completely new level of service is provided for the airport by reinforcement of concessioners’ pool (operators of shops and food courts). Such restaurants as pizza parlor Paparazzi Express, beer restaurants Grenkipub and Grizzly Diner and ice-cream parlor Piccolo will be opened by the end of January within the first stage of the project. . Paparazzi Express (one of the owners is an actor and restaurant-keeper Fedor Bondarchuk) will offer quality format of Italian and European specialty restaurant. Grenkipub is a classical beer restaurant with unusual interior and traditional menu of the beer restaurant. Grizzly Diner is an American fast food restaurant.
New outlets – mono-brand clothes and accessorize shops of the world’s leading brands Lacoste and Harmont&Blaine will be located on the first floor of the terminal. The largest shop in Russia of Travel Retail category, opened in association with Kapo Duty Free that now works in internal market too and supplier of goods of the world’s leading brands – company Heinemann, will present the wide range of perfumes and cosmetics of the world’s brands Chanel, Givenchy, Christian Dior, sweets, tobacco products, accessorizes and leather products. After the second stage of reconstruction, a new coffee shop “Shokoladnica”, new mono-brand boutiques Pal Zileri, Tommy Hilfiger, Milanomoda and Pandora will be opened.
The first domestic terminal was built in 2007 and its area was 23 thousand sq.m, cost was 1.378 million rubles and capacity was 1000 passengers per hour (500 passengers for departure and 500 passengers for arrival). Architecture and design were carried out by Ural company “Vostokproekt”.
